At Gifford Primary School, our uniform gives children a sense of belonging and encourages them to take pride in their appearance. We ask parents and carers to ensure their children arrive at school wearing the correct uniform each day.

The following requirements apply from September 2026.

Early Years – Nursery and Reception

• White polo shirt, with long or short sleeves.
• Grey Gifford logoed V-neck jumper or cardigan.
• Black smart trousers, skirt or pinafore. Elasticated waistbands are encouraged to help children manage toileting and changing independently.
• Grey, black or white socks or tights.
• Smart, flat, plain black school shoes.

Years 1 and 2

• Grey Gifford logoed V-neck jumper or cardigan.
• Black smart trousers, skirt or pinafore. Leggings are not permitted.
• Grey, black or white socks or tights.
• Smart, flat, plain black school shoes.

Children in Year 1: White polo shirt with long or short sleeves. A tie is not required.

Children in Year 2: White school shirt or blouse with long or short sleeves, worn with an elasticated tie.

Years 3 and 4

• White school shirt or blouse, with long or short sleeves.
• Grey Gifford logoed V-neck jumper or cardigan.
• Black smart trousers, skirt or pinafore. Leggings are not permitted.
• Grey, black or white socks or tights.
• Smart, flat, plain black school shoes.

Children in Year 3: Elasticated tie.

Children in Year 4: Traditional school tie.

A school tie is compulsory in both year groups. Polo shirts are not permitted.

Years 5 and 6

• Black school blazer with the school badge.
• White school shirt or blouse, with long or short sleeves.
• Traditional school tie, which pupils should learn to tie independently. 
• Grey Gifford logoed V-neck jumper or cardigan.
• Black smart trousers, skirt or pinafore. Leggings are not permitted.
• Grey, black or white socks or tights.
• Smart, flat, plain black school shoes.

Blazers and traditional school ties are compulsory. Polo shirts are not permitted.

Summer Uniform – All Year Groups

During the summer months, children may wear the following alternatives:

• Boys: Black smart tailored shorts instead of trousers.
• Girls: A red-and-white gingham summer dress.

Children wearing shorts should continue to wear the polo shirt or school shirt and tie appropriate to their year group.

Smart, flat, plain black school shoes must still be worn. Sandals are not permitted.

PE Kit – All Year Groups

• Red Gifford logoed PE T-shirt.
• Black shorts or black jogging bottoms.
• White socks.
• Plain black trainers or plimsolls.

Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school for their lessons.

Footwear

Children must wear smart, flat, plain black school shoes with their everyday uniform.

• Trainers, including all-black trainers, are not permitted with everyday uniform. They may be worn for PE.
• Sandals are not permitted.
• Boots and wellington boots are not part of the school uniform. Children may travel to school wearing them but must change into school shoes on arrival.

Hair, Appearance and Accessories

• Long hair must be tied back for health and safety reasons.
• Hair bands, bows and clips should be simple and in school colours only: grey, red, black or white.
• Extreme hairstyles and decorative patterns shaved into hair are not permitted.
• Hair should not be coloured or dyed.
• Styling products should be kept to a minimum.
• Make-up, including nail varnish, must not be worn.

Religious Headwear

Religious headwear, including turbans and hijabs, should be grey or plain white.

Jewellery and Watches

Children may wear small stud earrings. Hooped or dangling earrings are not permitted.

Small items of religious significance and small digital or analogue watches are permitted.

Smartwatches are not allowed.

During PE, jewellery must be removed or safely taped, as appropriate.

Labelling Clothing

Please clearly label all uniform, PE kit and outerwear with your child’s name so that misplaced items can be returned.
